“CLEAN BEACHES

FOR A BLUE WIND”

Raising students' awareness of the impact of waste on the Black Sea is an essential component of ecological education, and organizing activities that capture their attention and actively involve them can contribute to the formation of responsible behaviors towards nature. A campaign where students, parents and teachers collaborate to collect waste, followed by an educational session about recycling and environmental protection.

1. THE PURPOSE OF THE ACTIVITY

MAIN OBJECTIVE: Involvement of students in cleaning the beaches, an activity that focuses on protecting the biodiversity of the Black Sea and promoting a responsible behavior towards the environment.

SECONDARY OBJECTIVES:

  1. Sensitization of students regarding the impact of waste on the Black Sea

  2. Promoting responsible behavior towards the environment.

  3. Involvement of the local community (students, parents, teachers, authorities) in protecting the beaches.

2. PROPOSED ACTIVITIES

  1. Information campaign: Organization of educational sessions before the sanitation act, in which students learned about the impact of plastic pollution on marine ecosystems and the importance of recycling.

  2. Sanitization of beaches: Organization of a beach cleaning action in Constanta. The participants collected the waste and learned to sort the materials for recycling.

  3. Creation of an awareness project: After sanitation, students can create posters, leaflets or campaigns on social networks to raise awareness among the general public about the importance of protecting the marine environment.

  4. Collaboration with NGO Mare Nostrum: Involvement of environmental organizations in the cleaning process, to ensure better waste management in the long term.

3. IMPORTANT ASPECTS TO CONSIDER

Safety of the participants:

The participants were properly equipped (gloves, trash bags, etc.) The existence of a safe framework for the activity was taken into account.

 Impact assessment:

After completing the activity, a feedback was made from the participants and the impact of the action on the community and the environment was analyzed and organized interactive sessions during which students learned about:

  1. The impact of marine pollution: Explain how waste reaches the Black Sea and how it affects marine life,

from fish, mammals to seabirds. Images and videos illustrating the effects of pollution on marine ecosystems were presented.

  1. Types of marine waste: Encourage students to understand the differences between biodegradable and non-recyclable waste (plastic, glass, metal, etc.) and the dangers represented by each type.

  2. The life cycle of a product: the students learned how consumer products (from plastic bags to plastic bottles) end up in the ocean and what happens to them in the long term.

BENEFITS FOR STUDENTS:

-   Understanding the interdependence between people and the marine environment.
-   Developing a responsible behavior towards environmental protection and towards the Black Sea.
-   Creating a sense of collective responsibility and of belonging to a community that contributes to protection of the Black Sea
